
Nervous System Regulation
We are not looking to feel calm, grounded and regulated all the time.
The goal is to be flexible and knowledgeable about where our Nervous System is humming moment to moment.
When our bodies are chronically in hypoarousal (stress, fight/flight) it can feel unsafe to be in a state of rest.
Similarly, when our bodies are chronically comfortable (hypoarousal) it can feel unsafe to be activated.
We want to come back from an activated state when it’s no longer necessary and to get into the activated state when it is.
We're looking to create a knowledgeable awareness about where our nervous system is and then bring ourselves back into regulation when the action has done its job.
Appropriate activation is just as necessary as rest. In other words… it’s okay to not feel regulated all the time.
It’s knowing where your Nervous System is in each moment and then brigning yourself back
into regulation at the right time that matters most.
